Reading Sewing Blogs is Good for my Health!

or “A Tale of Four Tees – #1”

Again we are well into another month and I am well into another challenge.  This month it is PatternReview’s turn.  I have signed up for their TNT (tried and true) Tee Contest. I am to use one pattern and make four Tee shirts out knit fabrics.  I can alter my pattern any way I like but I am to use the same Tee shirt pattern for the base.

I am going to make my Tee #1 sleeveless and I am shifting the front and back bodice pieces 1.5 inches off the centre fold of my fabric at the neckline, so that I can gather the neck and hopefully get a sort of drapey/flowing feel to the Tee.

This is my original Tee shirt pattern, Butterick B5988, view B is my inspiration.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I have pulled fabric from my stash for these four Tees and my first fabric is an ITY knit, made of 92% polyester and 8% Lycra with 50% stretch.  I love the “quilted” design on the fabric.

I gathered the neck opening with a long stitch and used my 1/4″ seam foot to sew single fold bias tape around the neck and arm holes and the hem.

What else can I say?  Well I discovered the fabric was a little creepy.  I felt like I was wearing lingerie or pjs!  But I did like the “quilting” design and how the gathered neckline worked out.  It did have a nice flow on the front and back bodices.

Today, everyone (except me) was either painting the fence or studying.  I could hardly interrupt them for a request to “please take my photo?”  So I tried the “Selfie” route!  For once I’m doing selfies where my head is deliberately left out of the shot, and not accidentally left out!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I thought I would let Dolly try on my new Tee too.

How do you like my earrings – a throw-back from the 70’s.  Did you have a pair yourself?  Do you still have a pair like these stashed away somewhere?  These matched my Tee so well!

Oh yes, before I forget, back to my post title.  I was downstairs jogging on my treadmill and reading lovely sewing blogs on my IPAD Mini.  You know… I’m supposed to do the usual walk for 5 minutes, jog for 3, walk for 2, jog for 6, whatever…  I always put my IPAD on the treadmill screen so I don’t have to see how poorly I am doing.  I read one lovely blog, and then another, and then another…  Then I realized that I hadn’t checked my treadmill screen for a while.  (I get so distracted.)  Apparently I had been jogging for over 15 minutes straight!

Now it is usually when I am sitting on my butt on the couch reading sewing blogs that I lose track of time.  This was a nice change!

Reading Sewing Blogs is Good for my Health!

Keep up the Good Work fellow Bloggers – I need the distraction!

  1. Reading sewing blogs while on the treadmill has to be more conducive to good health than watching scary TV shows — I become so engrossed in the action that I forget to move my feet and then — disaster!
Pretty T (it didn’t look creepy at all). 🙂

    1. Scary TV shows don’t sound like a good plan at all. Down there, alone, in the dark and scary basement, with your/my back to the door, not hearing anything except the noise of the TV and treadmill, someone could very easily sneak up on you – just think about it next time!

Thank you for the compliment! And reading and commenting!

      1. Well, if I wasn’t freaked out before I’m certainly freaked out now!!

  2. I laughed when I read about reading the sewing blogs and forgetting about jogging on the treadmill. As a personal trainer I would chalk that up to a personal best. I had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday. Training run and at times I forgot I was running because I was thinking about the next watercolour to do. Lesson learned: when running think about something else. Lol

I like how you changed up your blog, love the photo from the Biggest Sewing room, the colours and costumes are vibrant. Your material for your blouse contest is vibrant too. I have yet to take a selfie. I’m curious to see how the other blouses will look like. Good job.

    1. Thank you! It’s nice to have a bit of colour in your life, isn’t it. I am not a fan of selfies, but then I don’t have the faintest idea what I am doing!

  3. Great first tee–I can’t wait to see what else you come up with for the contest!

    1. Thank you! My fingers are crossed that I make the deadline this month even!

  4. I like it! My favorite Ts are soft and flowey like this. I’ve never made one though. I’ve thought about it, but always end up making a dress. So nice to just have just one thing to put on. No worries about what to put with it! But you may just inspire me. I’ll be watching for the next one!

    1. Hahaha Thank you! And here I sit waiting for you to come up with another lovely dress! I have been inspired myself! I’ve just got to hit those fabric stores!!

      1. Well, there’s always online shopping! I’m just about to slice into some bright new Vlisco, fresh from the wash. Hope I don’t mess it up!!!

        1. Looking forward to seeing it! (NOT messed up!)

      2. I made three dresses last week… just don’t have pics yet! Will soon though. 🙂

        1. Looking forward to it….. Seriously? Three?

          1. Sure! It’s easy with no kids and just part time work. I’m digging into my fabric stash!

  5. A clever pattern modification, it’s worked well. Its great that reading sewing blogs is good for your health, I wish it was so for me, I love reading them too, but im usually on the couch

    1. Ah well, everyone needs a little couch time! Thanks for reading and your lovely comments!
