… my UnFinished Object is only from April! I found it and two others when I was cleaning up my pattern and fabric stash!
I’m surprised I never finished this shirt right away as I love this fabric! Then again, I am glad I didn’t finish it right away as by the time I did get around to sewing it up, I had some black remnants that I could use for the contrasting collar. My pattern was McCall’s M6606, view C with the hem line of view B. I’ve never had a shirt with a short hem line in the front and a long one in the back. A novel idea for me! My fabric was a 100% polyester called “Chiffon”.
I didn’t have too much problem putting together the collar and the collar band. You sew the finished collar between the right sides of the two collar bands. Then sew one collar band to the neck edge.
Then sew the sides of the collar bands together being careful not to sew your collar into it. I don’t know if everyone does it this way, but I find it easier doing it in steps like this.
Now, pull it all right side out. Then slip stitch the other collar band to the neck edge. There was a button placket to sew on, turn and slip stitch on the inside.
Then hemming of the sleeves and bottom edge. I used single fold bias tape for this light fabric to try to give it some stiffness.
Finished shirt! (Simon, of course, approved!) You can see the inside of the longer back hem hanging lower than the front. I think using the single fold bias tape might even look more decorative than a regular hem.
The stand up collar. I am happy with it BUT I have noticed that my fabric is light. I probably should have put interfacing on both collar pieces and both collar bands to give it a stiffer shape. I don’t notice it when I am wearing it, but I do notice it when Dolly has it on. Also the top buttonhole should have been put in a “smidge” higher. I had trouble with it though as I forgot to trim my seam allowance inside the top of the button placket and I couldn’t get my buttonhole foot to sew any higher through that thickness. I don’t usually button the top button of a shirt anyway, so this probably won’t be so noticeable. Oh well something to think about next time!

I almost didn’t get my photos taken for this post. When I came home my husband was making dinner.
“Well, I said, if you are making dinner, I will go finish my post. I’ll do the clean up and the dishes!”
“No problem”, he says.
After dinner, he was watching “Fast and Loud” or “Top Gear” or whatever and I ask, “Would you take some photos of me in my shirt so I can finish my post?”
“Now?, he asks.”
“Yes, I have to get it done.”
“Why?, he asks.”
“My 3 fans are anxiously awaiting my post!”, I exclaim. So I make a deal with him, “Take my photos and you can watch the rest of “Fast and Gear” or “Top Loud” or whatever you are watching and I will clean up and do the dishes.”
“Ok”, he says.

Not bad at all! My longest UFO lurked in the drawer of the damned for twenty years. It took me that long to decide there was no choice but to undo the carefully applied binding and redraft the lapels. Nicely fitted shirt btw!
UFO’s are definitely GHOSTS that haunt us all… I wonder if other crafters, or artists, or whatever, have this problem too? Mine sat for so long because I was uncertain about the long/short hem, but I have seen so many other lovely ones in posts that I thought I would just go for it! I guess if styles change I can always just chop the back hem straight off! Thanks for the compliment!
Hooray for finishing things! (And to be fair, April isn’t really THAT long ago, haha!) I like the high-low hem a lot, and the contrast collar is a really nice touch. =)

It looks great! I think the collar looks fine without interfacing because chiffon is so delicate the soft collar is a compliment to the fabric of the shirt 🙂

That is a lovely shirt. I like the black collar with the print of the blouse. I really like that style of longer in the back. Some of my favorite tops are like that. Simon likes Social Media. 😊🐱

Always worth finishing things off. My longest knitting WIP was three years… I’m thankfully not half as bad with my sewing projects 🙂
Well I tried knitting once, I finished it but it had so many stitches added on it was twice as wide at one end then the other (it was a scarf!). I haven’t knit since! Thanks for your honesty! 🙂
The high low shirt! and I was one of your many fans waiting for the post! Very nice, the black collar really sets it off and the binding on the hem looks really good, definitely what I’ll be doing on my next chiffon make.

I love the longer back. For some of us, with a slightly larger caboose, sometimes longer is better. Now as far as ghosts in closets….I must honestly admit that I had to throw my ghost out because, well what can I say…..caboose. A seam allowance has only so much allowance.
I love the contrast.
Ah, you would love then the recommendation I read: when cutting out for fitting leave a large seam allowance! 😀 I was lucky, I think, that this is not a fitted pair of pants… They might not have fit me anymore!

My oldest UFO is several years old now. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it. It’s a long sleeve, button front collared shirt for work in a blue fabric with stripes kind of woven in. I’m using a Kwik Sew pattern that I’ve made a time or two before. I haven’t finished it because one day I came to the realization that I was likely to wear it very little because it would require ironing with every single wear. Now really…why would I want to finish it? It’ll never really be done because I’l have to iron it all the time…so I’ll never wear it…so why finish it? If I don’t finish it, then i don’t have to iron it!!! 🙂
So my husband and your husband could be good company for each other! and I agree, why finish something that you don’t want to iron! 🙂 Although, I have a sister who apparently LOVES ironing! She has a closet full of tailored cotton shirts and loves ironing each and every one! (she is a strange girl!)
