Under Construction…

… my blog that is, not my sewing!

I apparently am using a “retired” theme, not that WordPress doesn’t allow that, but I am still finding that some of my features are not working as I would like.  So, I am going to take a tiny break, choose a new theme, and switch from THIS to THAT.  It will either be exciting or a huge disaster!  Hopefully, you will find me here again soon.  Hopefully, you won’t see too many weird things happening in the meantime.  Hopefully, I won’t lose ONE. SINGLE. THING. while changing over.  Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I ran into some Craftsy courses and some sewing patterns ON SALE and I couldn’t resist.  I purchased “One Pattern, Many Looks:  Pants” and “One Pattern, Many Looks:  Blouses” (which I cannot even see on their site anymore).

The reason for purchasing the “Pants” course is obvious… I have been torturing myself for a while now in my efforts to make the “perfect pants”, I might as well continue!

Now for the “Blouse” course, I just figured after I beat myself up over making pants, I might as well start on my blouse making skills.

Really good news is the “Blouse” course came with a free McCalls pattern (M6649).

The “Pants” course recommended using this Vogue pattern #1003 (not included), but they were not particularly fussy – any pants pattern would do – so I bought it anyway!

Since McCalls was having a SALE ($3.99 CAN) at the time, I went wild and bought these too, McCalls M6610 and M6361.

Overkill, huh? 🙂

I do still have some sewing “under construction” too.  I have almost finished my blue denim jeans.  I will post some photos of them as soon as they are finished.  And I am going to cut out my next couple of projects this weekend.

So what about you?  Has anyone out there tried either of these Craftsy courses or any of these sewing patterns?  And what do you have “under construction” now?  I’d love to hear from you!

Happy Sewing!

An additional note – In order to make the print darker for this theme the only way I can see to do it is to ask for a darker black colour at the time I post it.  I can’t see any “default button” for choosing the darker black.  I will choose a darker black print colour in future posts, but I cannot do much about past posts.  Perhaps I have to buy that option?

  1. Best of luck choosing a new theme! You shouldn’t lose anything, although you might find things missing from your sidebar. Generally you can just go into the widget section and move things about so they’re in the right spot.

  2. I have those courses too! Watched the Blouses one and its on my queue. Look forward to seeing your make with the McCalls. Good luck with the website redesign! I am sure it will be fabulous👍

    1. So the courses went well for you? Great! Thanks for the compliment!

      1. Well I havent yet made the blouse or the trousers😒. The blouse is higher up my sewing queue than the trousers. I hope to make soon. Sunni at A Fashionable Stitch has been posting her makes from that blouse class.

        1. Our sewing lists are always so long, hmm? I might go see what Sunni is up to!

  3. Oooo! Good luck, I changed mine not so long ago, I think they’re easier to tweak now if you use the blue page for shuffling things round rather than the one with the black stripe down the left. (Hope that makes sense!!).
Looking at your patterns reminded me I recently bought the last one you’ve shown, the skirt pattern – might trace it off this weekend…..😃

    1. Yup! The blue page – black stripe page is what I’m dealing with now and I notice some things just aren’t even there! Takes me a long time to get bothered by something, but it’s time.. I’m bothered! Have a nice weekend!

  4. Nice Craftsy picks Linda 🙂 Good luck on your theme change. I loved the pants course you just bought. I think it was the best one I have tried so far! Can’t wait to see your blue jeans 🙂

    1. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the course. I love it when three different instructors can teach me because then I only have to understand a third of each class then I’ve got it! Right?

  5. Lots to keep you busy while you’re off air then 🙂 Will look forward to seeing the results.

    1. Hopefully soon! I want to get back to sewing and reading blogs!!!

  6. Good luck with the theme change. WordPress finally pushed me off “classic” mode to that “bee bop” mode. I refused to move then one day I tried to post something and “classic” was gone. It was “bee bop” or nuthin’!!

    1. Yup! That’s the same here… onwards and upwards to the “Bee Bop” Mode! (Still have to find a theme though that is exactly the same as my old one, but different!) 🙂

  7. I love change….hahaha. I always find that when they change things all they do is upgrade a couple of things and shuffle around the rest so you have to search for them. It appears that all commercial business works the same way, my grocery store recently decided to “update” their look. I actually asked why and they told me it was to make me more aware of all the products that people normally skim over because they don’t look around when they know where everything is. Good luck on your change.

    1. I agree with you totally! I want it new and improved and better… but exactly the same!

  8. Well what came up on my Samsung phone looks pretty cool–the blog construction. Ok, now dating myself here, when I went through the legal secretary course in the dark ages, I wish I learned about blogs instead of “this is a facsimile machine. ” My attempt at humor. (I also hated that course). Happy sewing. 😊

    1. Hey! buy me coffee and a cookie and I will show you “how to” anything on here! And believe me I went through it ALL! And believe me I think I am DONE WITH THIS ONE! Life is back to normal now!! 🙂

      1. I might just take you up on that. We’ll both have a coffee and a cookie!

  9. Welcome back… I mean to you and me..lol hahah .. Good to see you are all good.. 🙂

    1. Sheesh, I just spent most of the afternoon checking and re-following bloggers! Don’t know how that happened!

      1. I noticed you added me again.. I was like.. ooh no.. have I been out of commission so long….:)

  10. I am currently working on M6610 for my corduroys, which I have only managed to cut out the legs. I adjusted the pattern though for my big hips, so we’ll see how that works out for me. It’s probably going to be one of those long-term projects :o)

    1. I haven’t tried that pattern yet. You will have to show us when you are done. I love the feel of corduroy. I am sure they will turn out really nice!
