Which personality do you like the best?

Last week I cut out my Hunter Green Chevron knit fabric (85% polyester and 15% rayon) and a white linen-look fabric from my stash (actually a fabric given to me, along with a few others, by a friend) to make my first reversible garment.  I put a lot of thought into cutting out this Chevron fabric as you can read about here – matching it up the best I could.  I used Butterick 5789 a cardigan pattern that I have used before here.  I really like this pattern and all its versions.  This time I wanted to make view B – it has only two pattern pieces and I was short on fabrics.

At one point, the instructions for this view made me think: What the heck are you talking about?  It was easier for me to do what the diagrams said, than the words… sew the two end tabs together, then spread it open across the back and sew those together.  (the words still don’t make sense to me!)

I had the feeling that view B was longer than the first view I made, which I found very comfortable, so I tried the two on together and shortened the length of this new one to the same as my old one.

I pinned off where I was going to cut the new curved hem in the back… and cut the back length 4 inches shorter.

Much better!  How do you like the matching at the centre back seam?  It worked!  I even managed to match through the sleeve heads.

Here’s the White side.

I feel like I have a split personality.  Which personality do you like the best?

  1. I like the solid white side with just a touch of the zigzag showing but what a nice choice!

    1. Thank you! You know that’s how I started out with this project… With the Chevron being trim. I think my son likes the white side too, considering he was chuckling the whole time I was taking photos! Although white is a disaster for me to wear… I’m always slopping something on myself! One vote for White! 😂👍

  2. Hunter green for me, lovely pattern matching.

    1. Thank you, twice! We have one to one now, ladies (and gents, if there are any out there!). 😃

  3. I’ll vote for the chevron fabric then! 😀

    1. Oh! And the polling takes a sudden turn!

  4. I love them both! It’s like Clark Kent and Superman – you can change depending on your mood! Very cool.

    1. Thank you! The Chevron does have a bit of a gold thread in it for an elegant evening mood!

  5. They both look great – it’s such a versatile piece of clothing! This is the best thing about sewing for yourself: you can make garments you dream up in your head.

My favourite version is the one with the chevron pattern on the outside. I love the way the white collary bit highlights the pattern.

    1. Thank you! I was quite lucky when my friend gave me the white fabric – it matches with the green perfectly!

  6. Love the chevron side, your pattern matching is amazing 🙂

    1. Thank you very much! (I had my fingers crossed!)

  7. Great pairing! love the chevron!

  8. Chevron for me too. I love the pattern and you matched it perfectly.

    1. Thank you! (I think the Chevrons are winning!?!) 🙂

  9. I’m favouring the hunter green side, but reckon the white side would look stunning as part of a mainly white ensemble.

    1. That’s true, perhaps the Hunter green looks nice because of the black I am wearing, so if I wear white then the white side would look better. Thank you!

  10. I like both but my vote is for the chevrons. It’s great to have a choice.

    1. Thank you! I love the reversible idea!

  11. Both look so good it’s impossible to choose 😉

    1. Thank you, that’s good to know. It certainly will be nice to have a choice!

  12. I like them both! The white side out has a much more feminine look, dressier and the other a bit more casual. Nice cardigan, did you make that….lol

    1. That’s a good analysis! And a funny joke too! 😂 thank you!

  13. Hmmmm, both sides are lovely. The white is so classic (with a hint of fun). The chevron is pure fun! I’ll be curious to see which you end up wearing the most. Sorry, that was totally unhelpful, wasn’t it.

    1. Oh no! Very helpful! I am imaging the mood that each look could give me. 😄👍

  14. Zigzag with a touch of white for me – fantastic pattern matching. I would want to show that off.

  15. I’d vote for the white side out, however, I know that I’m a complete mess, and that the white would only be that way for about 5 minutes after putting it on. 😉

    1. I know! I’m the same. The white looks lovely… like James Bond or something! How does he not slop stuff on his white tuxedo! 😂

  16. Fabulous pattern matching! I like both sides and feel that you will wear them equally.

    1. Thank you! Each side does have its uses, doesn’t it?

  17. This is so cool. I’ve been scrolling the two pictures trying to decide which I like better and I can’t. I can see the chevron (?) print on the outside being worn with dark slacks, and in the summer the white on the outside being worn with a skirt. They both look great.

    1. Thank you! It all depends on the mood, the weather, the event! Good idea!

  18. I just read all the comments and then went back and looked at the choices. “You” are swaying towards the chevron as you gave it the grand finale shot at the very end. I do think the votes are correct though, the black slacks go great with the chevron and I bet the white version would look stunning with a white skirt or slacks. You will look stunning in both. Job well done.

    1. Thank you for the nice comment! I kind of feel like James (or Jane) Bond in the white – tuxedo like… and I feel casual in the chevron. I think after listening to everyone, I can actually live with both choices!

  19. I really like that open cardigan look. I prefer the chevron side, although the other side looks great too. Very practical to have one garment with two different looks!

    1. It is practical, isn’t it! 😃 thank you!

  20. Wow that worked out nicely! Well done (-;

    1. Thank you. I had my fingers crossed… I wasn’t too sure if it would!
