Amber takes a break …

Well!  We are all packed, ready to go on holidays!  Amber, my Singer 421G, finished my swimsuit cover up a few days ago and I’ve packed her up for a little R&R!

I just had to show you the cool stitch that Amber can create, one of many I have yet to discover!

This fabric is a lovely “Dahlia Jacquard”.  51% polyester 46% cotton and 3% spandex.  It feels soft and comfortable.  I didn’t want the seams to be messy and unfinished on the inside, so I decided to finish them off by folding them to one side and sewing them down with a decorative stitch.  I was happy with the results.

This time I changed the construction order of McCalls M7200 to make it easier to sew the decorative stitch at the seams.

Contrary to the pattern instructions, I sewed the sleeves on first, sewing the seam down with the decorative stitch next and then sewed the side seams up through the sleeve.  (Sophie enjoying my fabric!)

Time to go now.  It’s going to be a busy day tomorrow.  My sister and I are headed off on holidays.  We are going to try out our swimsuits and new cover ups at the beach.

And don’t forget to keep sewing and blogging so I’ll have something to read on the beach!

Happy Sewing!

    1. Sigh! It’s going to be lovely, thank you!

  4. That is a beautiful material. The stitch goes perfectly with it.

    1. Thank you! I was happy it worked out so well!

  5. Love the decorative stitch – you’ve got me thinking where else that would look great 🙂

    1. Well you are going to have to tell us now!

      1. 😀 I think it would look amazing in contrasting thread along a hem or a cuff. Would that work?

        1. Yes that would work. Good idea!

  6. That is such a gorgeous fabric! I hope you and your sis have a great time!

    1. Thank you! Our holiday has started and it is hot and lazy here!

  7. That decorative stitch is great, and you’ve created what looks like a flat felled seam (to my eye anyway). Love your wrap and I hope you get to wear it lots.

    1. Thanks! It is being put to good use every day! I think the experts would say that my flat felled seam was one turn incomplete, but it’s close. I didn’t tuck the long side over the short side. I just leaned the long side over the short and sewed. I didn’t want to claim a perfect flat felled seam! 😃👍

  8. Wow, that’s fabulous fabric…perfect to take on a mexican vacation. Enjoy your lovely break from sewing with your sis!
