The battle is over!

It started off bad.  I wanted a dress like my mom and aunt.  I wanted it out of this fabric (100% Rayon, which I love) and I thought I could alter this pattern to what I wanted.  That’s when my problems started.  If you missed it, you can read about it here.

So forget about the dress!  I managed to salvage as much of the fabric as I could and I made a top instead.

Last week, I got it almost finished, there were just a few odds and ends left, like the neckline and front opening facing.

Ohh! pretty buttons!  Which one should I choose!

Of course, the orange one!

I fused some interfacing on the hem, front and back, to add some body, and “rolled” the back hem up 1/4 ” twice.

In the front I rolled up the hem 1″, then 1″ again.

I love the result.  The hem is split at the sides and high in the front and low in the back.

Sunny outside shots.  I love how the sleeves turned out!

Ok, I managed to pull this one out of the fire.  Yipee!

Next up?  Border Prints!  My sister has chosen the fabric for her next dress – 100% cotton.  I love border prints!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

So, I’m back to my “Sister’s Sewing Projects”.  She would like a dress in this style.  Don’t you love the photo quality – taken right off the TV!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

She would like sleeves though, so I thought this pattern would be suitable.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

What do you think?  Will this pattern do the trick?

Happy Sewing!

  1. Great save there! I love that fabric, blue is so versatile. I think the pattern you found is nearly a perfect match for the tv photo.

    1. Thank you! Hopefully then this dress will turn out much better than the last dress/top! 😂

      1. Fingers crossed for you!

  2. Well done! A save is always so satisfying. Border prints are too! Have fun,.,,

    1. Thank you! You’ve found some lovely border prints too, in past posts!

  3. The top looks great Linda. I really like the detailing, especially the sleeves.
PS Your backyard looks great…kudos to Mr Greenthumb!

    1. Thank you! Yes, Mr. Greenthumb is a keeper!

  4. Oh I love it! It turned out great, especially the sleeves. I think your Butterick pattern will work for that style dress. I also think the Cashmerette Upton would do the trick too.

    1. Thank you! Another vote for the Butterick! I haven’t noticed the Upton yet. I shall go take a look!

  5. Turned out lovely. Well done for sticking with it. That colour really suits you and the sleeves are gorgeous K xXx

    1. Thank you! I just couldn’t let this blue print go, I love it so!

  6. What a lovely top and a great save. You really pulled that one together. It looks gorgeous. So does the border print fabric and the pattern for your sister’s dress. Your garden is lovely. Xx

    1. Thank you! I’m looking forward to working with the border print. The garden is my husband’s baby. I have trouble with plants…they always die on me!

  7. Such a good save, and I love the fact that you coordinate perfectly with the shrub! The dress pattern for your sister looks perfect, and I look forward to seeing it in the border print.

    1. Oh! You caught me! And here I thought it would be a subtle play of colours to stand by the blue flowers! 😂. I’m looking forward to the border print. I haven’t sewn any in a while! 😁

  8. So glad you rescued your fabric and made a top you are really happy with! I think that pattern looks spot on for your sister’s dress!

    1. Thanks! Yes I am hoping for a more straight-forward project this time – get the right fabric and the right pattern to start!

  9. Nice top! I really like the sleeves.

    1. Thank you! First time I’ve done these and the fabric was just the proper weight or them. Lucky, I guess!

  10. Well done on that save!
The pattern for your sister looks perfect. I hope it gives you less trouble than your dress did.

    1. Thank you. I really like how this new pattern goes together – amazing … use the correct pattern pieces in the correct fashion and it all goes together smoothly! 😁👍

  11. That pattern looks straightforward and useful. And your top is gorgeous, I think the fabric decided that was what it wanted to be!

    1. I agree with you! It just wasn’t working out any other way!

  12. Great save. I love the fabric. As for the “Sister Project” Oh goodie goodie, it is my turn again. Another dress for me.

    1. Thank you! Yes another one for you! Actually it’s quite fun to move from my own projects to projects for someone else! 😂

  13. Good job on the top. The colour looks good on. Also good modelling by your blue Hydrangea. 👌

    1. Is that what it’s called? Hydrangea? 😂 Thank you for the compliments – sometimes everything just works out right!
