The first Designin’ December 2017 Challenger …

or should I say our last, very last Challenger from Designin’ December 2016?  The beginning of this year, Emma and her Machine confessed that she couldn’t get her Designer me-made Copy finished before the deadline.  So I did the only reasonable thing, I told her she could enter it in Designin’ December 2017!  Our hobbies shouldn’t stress us out!  So do the research, sew the garment, write the proper post on your blog or on IG in 2017 and be included in Designin’ December 2017!

Emma and her Machine found her desired Designer Original …

and finished her Designer me-made Copy.

Read about all her process (and see some more wild and windy photos) on her blog here and on Instagram @emmaandhermachine!

WHAT IS THE DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER CHALLENGE?

We have all seen something we LOVE either in the stores, online or on the runways, but don’t actually want to buy for some reason.  So I propose that we sew that garment that we see/want.  Now if you are lucky and you already have an exact pattern, either an indie pattern, your own self-drafted, or a “Big 4” pattern, that you can use – then go for it!  Are you a fan of Vintage or Historic fashion, or Re-fashioning, you can do that too!  Whatever works for you.  Show us your Designer Original photo and how you put together your Designer me-made COPY.

“Why buy when you can make it yourself – better and for less money?”

HOW TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES?

  1. This is such a lovely skirt. How nice to see the first make coming!

  2. nice one! The suede patchwotk skirt in your post is this one: NET-A-PORTER
    NET-A-PORTER saved to Fall Favorites
M.i.h Jeans’ ‘Kalle’ skirt is made from a patchwork of pink, orange, blue and pale-yellow suede intended to “echo natural offcuts.” It’s designed in a flattering A-line silhouette and falls to a mid-thigh mini length. Make the color palette pop with a pale sweater and sneakers.

    1. Thanks for the proper reference. I just love that skirt. I would have to make it out of faux suede though, not to offend anyone!

      1. Do you not wear leather? Anyway, faux is cheaper and washable. …

        1. I do try not to wear leather, my angel of a daughter’s influence. I have seen a leather jacket being sewn up by my sister long ago and there was quite a technique to it. I have sewed with faux suede and I like it much better – easier to sew, less money, looks great and more importantly keeps my daughter from giving me lectures! 😁

          1. Tackling leather is one of my remaining phobias…that and welt pockets, I hate them!

            1. Remember those leather jackets with the fringe on them? My sister made one for her boyfriend. It was long ago and I was much younger and I remember watching every step in awe! The cutting and sewing and the gluing. Then there was the quilted lining. It took such a long time to do! The leather was so thick it finally put my mom’s sewing machine in the repair shop. Her boyfriend supplied the leather from a hunting trip, it was all sorts of odd shapes. When they broke up he kept the jacket. I would have gone over there and demanded it back! 😂 The best lesson I had for welt pockets was that Islander Sewing system Motor City Express jacket. It was a Craftsy course and it fixed my fear of welt pockets. I watch it still every now and then!

              1. I’m not exactly afraid of them, I’m just such a sloppy sewer they never come out very neat lol

              2. But you make such fabulous outfits that’s hard to believe!

              3. lol it just shows how unimportant accuracy is in most sewing!

  3. I love this concept! I can’t wait to see what everyone makes. I’m new to Instagram, so I’m heading over to check last years entries.

    1. Thanks! Are you thinking of joining in? 🤔

      1. not this year! I don’t have any inspiration garment in mind.

        1. That’s ok! We always need an audience full of voters! 🙂
