#MMMay18 … and a bit of tidying up! …

Hello All!  👋😁 I’m back!  I had a lovely week off work during which I got a lot of “work” done!

I signed up for #MMMay18 this year and now that it is pretty much over I thought I’d give you my version.  The last time I signed up for #MMMay15, I took frantic photos every day of my me-made garments.  This #MMMay18, I decided to not take photos every day, but to learn what I had in my closet and what I should make.  Are my sewing plans on track?

I did #MMMay15 around the same time I started my RTW fast.  For three years I have only purchased things that I can’t sew – like footwear, undergarments, socks, knitted things …

When I analyzed my wardrobe this #MMMay18 I found at least 60 me-made items.  You’ve seen them all here before.  You don’t have to see them all again!

Instead, I wanted to analyze what’s needed … I took everything me-made out of my closet and tossed it on the bed. (The cats loved it! 🐈🐈)

TOPS?  There certainly are enough and many prints to choose from.

Don’t seem to have much green in my wardrobe. Not many solid coloured tops neither!

JACKETS AND CARDIGANS?  Looks like I didn’t include one or two here.

I bagged up the few pieces I don’t wear anymore and from all this decided that I seriously don’t have any me-made casual clothes – tops yes, but sweatshirts, shorts, joggers, yoga pants or cargo pants … no.  Another pair of jeans would be nice too, as I only have one me-made pair.  Maybe some solid coloured tees to go with my new casual clothes?

I would also love to make a couple of jackets or light coats too.  I have a me-made heavy winter coat and a light denim style jacket, but something in between, for the spring/fall months would be nice.

Do you have any pattern suggestions to share?

Then I decided to continue my organizing into my fabric stash.  I bagged up the scraps, short pieces and anything that I had no plans for using – such as anything pure white!  I ended up giving a large bag of fabric away.

I checked and updated my fabric inventory list carefully.  When sewing new projects it is difficult for me to keep track of what I have actually used and what’s leftover.  I feel really organized now though, knowing exactly what I need to make and what I have in my stash to make it!

I found a few UFOs too!  Those have been moved to the top of the “sewing to do list”.
Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
I went from 6 bins down to 5 and the pink one is all bag fabric!
Do you keep track of your fabric stash?  Please tell us how?

While I was off work I also met up with my sister for a walk to the Victoria Harbour Ferry Ballet.

I thought I’d share some photos with you …

Happy Sewing!

STASH BUSTING WITH THIS PROJECT?  I don’t know if donations count (hopefully they do!) but I used to have 134.5 metres and now I’m down to 132 metres – and it’s been inventoried!

  1. I definitely count donations in stash busting, mine would hardly go down otherwise!! I’m measuring mine in lengths now, metres was too scary!

    1. It’s probably easier too. I had one metre marked out on the bed and used it with every piece because I didn’t know what I had anymore! 🙄

  2. At lest 60, wow!

Thanks for showing and telling 🙂.

    1. 60 isn’t much when you’ve been sewing as long as I have and me-made clothes last years!

  3. Excellent work done organising both clothing and stash.
I love your photographs of the harbour ballet – is that Quebec?

    1. Thank you! It’s Victoria, British Columbia, although with the Empress Hotel in the background and the harbour it probably looks similar. It’s the oldest part of the city and the Legislature Buildings are just up around the corner. Lots of sites to see within walking distance!

  4. Nice job on the material head count. I can honestly say that I have not bought anything in a long time except for the unmentionables and a couple of pairs of jeans and tees. I do have to admit it was not me that sewed all my wardrobe……it was you. Thank you once again for all your efforts. My closet looks lovely.

    1. 😂 haha your welcome! Glad you’re still liking your new wardrobe pieces! We still need to make you a bag. I’ve still got a lot of fabric to choose from! 😁👍

  5. I’d say you’ve had a pretty fabulous and productive month of May! Your handmades are all lovely and looks like you’ve got a great selection. 🙂

    1. Thank you, these weren’t all made in May, although they have been me-mades… just wanted to clarify, just in case! I did get myself sorted out in May though so I’m all ready to sew now.

  6. I like what you’ve achieved here. I hope it’s inspirational to my disorganised self. I didn’t sign up to MMMay as I don’t have many self made items. Some of my garments are too small, sadly. I spent time when I could culling clothes and deciding what I needed to make. I did wear my DIY garments a fair bit but with so many duplications that posting would have been extremely boring!
    I’m getting more organised though

    1. It’s always nice to stop sewing and take a good look at what you have! I look forward to seeing what you have decided to make!

  7. Hello there. I saw all your clothes. You have a great collection. You had asked pattern suggestions. Well I’m the opposite of you, I have more casual clothes. My pattern suggestion would be a hoodie. Despite what the husband says a person can never have too many hoodies. I find them great for walking or first thing in the morning when you need to grab something to cover up your pajama top so you can take your dog out for a bathroom break. Curious to see what you create next.

    1. Thanks! I definitely need more of those. The few I still have are from my ready to wear days and are not looking too good anymore! Although I don’t think the cats want a bathroom break 😉 they are nice to throw on on those windy days! (The hoodies, not the cats!)

  8. excellent organization work …it is always complicated!
    The photos are beautiful!

    1. It took a while to organize but I’m happy with it! Thanks!
