McCall’s M7364 – A simple sewing pattern!

I’ve always got an eye out for border print fabric and when I saw this 100% cotton denim – EMBROIDERED – I could not resist!  I bought enough for a pair of casual summer pants and a summer top.  It has been quite hot here lately (but unfortunately smokey from forest fires) so I am craving new summer clothes.  I figure by the time I finish these two garments it will be raining?

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I thought I would try McCall’s M7364, view D without the ties at the bottom – a “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern.  Last time I tried a “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern it was a cardigan and I didn’t like it.  You can take a look at it here.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I made a slight change to this pattern.  There were side seams and inner leg seams.  I couldn’t bear to break up the embroidery with a side seam so I cut each leg in one piece.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
I lay both front and back pieces together and cut them as one piece. (These pattern pieces need ironing!)
Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
Then I flipped the first leg piece over and cut the second leg.

There was quite a bit of fraying with this fabric so I thought I would try some french seams around the crotch.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
Sew the wrong sides together.
Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
Turn the garment right sides together and press and sew again.
Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
Both seams sewn.
Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!
Happiness!

For the inner leg seams, I wanted to carefully match the embroidery pattern, so I basted, sewed and zig zagged these seams carefully!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

Mighty fine matching for an inner leg seam!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I got really lazy and zig zagged and sewed the hems up.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

Sewed the waist band casing for the drawstring and I was almost done!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

I am much happier with this “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern than the last one I did.  Perfectly colourful and lightweight pants for our hot summer weather!  Next week, hopefully the top will be finished too!

I just had to show you this one – my outtake – this happens all the time when I hurry to set up my camera, tripod and timer! … Nice tree!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

Have you got a “simple” sewing pattern that you like to use?

Happy Sewing!

STASH BUSTING WITH THIS PROJECT?  Nothing!  I purchased 3 metres of this fabric adding to the stash, but I used 1.6 m for these pants and have already cut 1.4 m to make a top, so there is still 130.2 metres left in the inventory, I guess!

  1. Beautiful!! They turned out really well. I love embroidered fabrics too

    1. Thanks! I don’t see that kind of fabric often. I love it!

  2. Brilliant idea! They’re super.

    1. Thank Jay! There are really lightweight so quite cool!

  3. Love how you used the border on your fabric and how you adapted the pattern to work with your fabric. Good job!

    1. Thank you Simona! It would have been a different story with a more complicated pattern.

  4. Oooh border print! Oooh embroidered border fabric! Love ’em, well done missus.

    1. Thank you! The fabric is the winner here!

  5. Totally unique and perfect matching. Lovely

    1. Thanks, Ruth! I’m glad I had a simple pattern to make the matching easier.

  6. I really like the fabric! I love embroidery! 😀

    1. Thanks! It’s difficult to find sometimes.

  7. Beautiful fabric, Linda, and a lovely and skilled usage!
How’s the top coming? Should be another stunner for your wardrobe.
(So sorry to hear forest fire smoke is bothering you up there.)

    1. Thanks! The top should be labelled “Learn to Sew” too. It’s not a difficult one. But then the fancier the fabric the simpler the style, I figure! (Other areas have it worse than us. This is the second year in a row for fires – so sad!)

      1. Totally agree with you about fancy fabric = simple design concept. Find that’s true with my yarns, too. (Confirmed by an experienced knitter of my acquaintance.) Hope you have a lovely weekend planned.

  8. Your summer pants look great on you. I have to say I have 2 pairs of these 3/4 length pants for summer and I wish I had 3 more pairs! They are the best. Have a good weekend.

    1. Thanks! It’s been so warm! It’s nice to wear something cool 😎 you have a good weekend too!

  9. Gorgeous! I wouldn’t have thought to combine the front and back pattern pieces. Very clever!

    1. Thanks! This way might make it baggier, no shape, but it was a baggy pant anyway! So I saved the embroidery! 😁

  10. Beautifully done Linda. You have the patience of a saint! 🙂

  11. Beautiful pants. I love the embroidery and “wow” great matching. On another topic, I am the test pilot for your new bags. You gave me the “portrait” style bag to try out and it is fantastic. As I mentioned you could probably put in another couple of credit card slots (we can all use another credit card) or 2) by moving them closer together. Other than that I have not found one problem with the bag. I am loving it.

    1. That’s great Rose. I’ll redraw the card slot pocket. The next bag I make is going to another product tester – we shall see if she comes up with something else! (And thanks for the compliment on the pants!)

  12. That’s really cool, looks really good with the top.

  13. They are gorgeous – enjoy wearing them whilst it’s warm enough.

    1. Thank you! Yes our weather is cooling down a bit already!
