“Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!” … for Designin’ December 2018!

I know.  I completely stole the image and the quote.  Thank you White Rabbit for helping me illustrate my panic!  LOL  (illustration by Sir John Tenniel and written by Lewis Carroll)

NO, NO it isn’t too late!  Chill!  It’s not too late to start … keep working on it … and finish!  I am myself just finishing off on my pants (photos this weekend?) and I plan to do more cutting and sewing this weekend on my tunic top of  my Designer me-made Copy of this Designer Original – an Oscar de la Renta, Fall 2018.

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

Keep in mind though, I do NOT wear pink, so I am using this green for my pants.  What would you call it “Emerald”? “Shamrock”?  No matter, I love it and I don’t have anything like it in my closet!

Nice dress! Thanks, I made it!!

Now that I am at the hem-up-my-pants stage, I wonder … Should a person who is 5’5″ on a good day wear “shorter” pants, like this model?  Also, I can’t tell from this Designer Original photo, but are there “slits” in the sides of these pant leg bottoms?  What do you think?  Let me know in the comments, please!

Now, just in case this is the last post you read before you start your Designer me-made Copy, let me go over the details just one more time!

WHAT IS THE DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER CHALLENGE?

We have all seen something we LOVE either in the stores, online or on the runways, but don’t actually want to buy for some reason.  So I propose that we sew that garment that we see/want.  Now if you are lucky and you already have an exact pattern, either an indie pattern, your own self-drafted, or a “Big 4” pattern, that you can use – then go for it!  If you have to alter a pattern that you already have, or draft your own pattern, you can do that too.  Whatever works for you.  Let’s make what we see and want!  (Remember Vintage Designer fashion is allowed too!)  Good luck in your search!  😁👍

Show us your Designer Original photo and how you put together your Designer me-made COPY.

“Why buy when you can make it yourself – better and for less money?”

  1. oh, again. I love your competiton. There is a very old day ensemble from Chanel at the metropolitan museum of art. Can I use it?

    1. Thank you! Yes you can use vintage Designer fashion, like Chanel. Chanel has been very popular for years. Everyone loves it!

  2. Definitely emerald. Of course you can wear cropped pants! Just gauge the crop for the best part of that lower limb. In the case of the giraffes that model such things, they possible have the slit so the can get their feet through the slimmest of pants (when there’s no elastic in the fibre content). FINALLY! Another woman who WON”T wear pick! Thank you! Now we are not alone. 😘

    1. Thank you for the input! No pink for me! 😫😂

  3. There are some more images of your outfit here: https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/fall-2018-ready-to-wear/oscar-de-la-renta/slideshow/collection#4 but confusingly there seems to be far more construction to the lower leg… sorry!

    1. (click ‘details’ for more images)

    2. Oh! I’ll go take a look anyway! Maybe it will be worth the effort. They look kind of plain now!

      1. I screenshot all the “details”. I’m going to see what I can pull off with my Designer me-made Copy! 😍 Thanks! 🙏

  4. Good luck 🙂

  5. Chalk up another woman who does not wear pink. Last/and only time I wore pink, it was a bright pink bathing suit and I was 8 months pregnant. Looked like a pregnant flamingo, but that aside, I think the cropped pants would look good on you and I agree with those that say the reason for slits with these skinny models is to allow room for their big feet to get through. Emerald is a beautiful color.

    1. No pink here! 🛑 well I am rethinking the bottoms of the legs now. Sue Stony has supplied me with a few close up photos! It is a lovely colour! 💚

  6. I cant wait to see your tunic top. I have a couple too. I’d suggest the longer pant leg. I have shorter leg pants and I can only wear those pants during the spring and summer, and definitely not in the weather we’ve recently been having.

    1. Yes I really like the tunic styled top. I’m happy I found more details for the pants, I’ll try the lengths this weekend.

  7. I love the combination of tunic top and cropped pants, but just to be on the safe side why don’t you try it out first and see how it looks, you can always make them shorter but you can’t make them longer.
PS Emerald green is a beautiful colour and will look lovely on you!

    1. Absolutely true! It’s easier to cut the fabric off then it is to sew it on again! PS Thank you!

  8. I haven’t started my entry, but the fabric and pattern are ready, as is the image in my mind. Hopefully, I can come through with execution. Fingers crossed.
What?? I love pink! But don’t have pink pants, which I want to rectify real soon.

    1. Good luck to you on your Designin’ December project! Hahaha, how about you make the pink pants then – they probably will look lovely on you! I’ll be watching for them! 😁👍😂

  9. I’m still working on my Designin’ December project! I am determined to get it done, photographed, and blogged in time, though! Your project will be stunning, Linda! You always pick the best to recreate.

I’m shorter than 5’7″ and I like skinny ankle, shorter hem pants on myself as long as I have the right shoes for them. I tend to like ankle boots, fancy heels, or ankle strap flat shoes with these type of pants. The hem slits should add more interest (and width). I think you should try them!

    1. There’s still lots of time! I’m looking forward to seeing yours! You always have great inspiration and follow through!

I’ve finally got my pants sorted out. I’ve figured out the hem slits and you’re right about the shoe choice being so important. Now to move on to my tunic top.
