Celebrating Canada Day with a gift for you!

Today is the start of many days away from the office for me – my summer holidays! I’m almost giddy – so much so I want to share a small gift with you to celebrate … but more on that later!

I’m starting my time off with careful planning of what has to be done while I’m off work. I need a LIST! … Are you a “list-type” of person?

To start off, some “spring” cleaning is definitely in order around here … *boring!* … except for the entry: set up deck furniture 🌞

I’m going to finish a customer’s Rosie© Bag – I’m this close! I don’t think I have ever seen a more patient, understanding, kind customer. I’ll show her Rosie© Bag to you when it’s finished and delivered to her. The customer has to see it first! But you might remember this fabulous fabric from Instagram?

I’m back on my exercise and diet schedule … but that’s another *boring* entry!

Every summer I take a close look at my blog. Does it need some tweaking? I might even change the “theme” that I am using. Spice things up a bit? What do you think? Do you have a favourite theme? What do you like/not like about mine?

I’ve got my black denim jeans cut out and am tinkering with using RED topstitching thread again, just like I did with this denim jacket. I like to practice with different topstitching thread colours and designs before I actually commit to something. I’ve looked at some designs on Pinterest but nothing has caught my eye yet. I’m even thinking of adding some appliquéd flowers to my jeans, maybe just one, similar to my jacket, but definitely not as much appliqué on the jeans as on the jacket. If I wear the two together, I’d like the “busy” to be on the top and the “calm” to be on the bottom. I’ll add photos on here as I work through the steps of my jeans-making process.

I also have on my list a top cut out for my sister and pattern and fabric for a dress for another customer.

Summertime is also the time for my first #designindecember post. Yes, we’re going to do it again! Keep in touch though because I have a change or two in mind for this year! You’ll find out soon! I already have my Designer Original picked out, now I just need to do some fabric shopping, sounds like I need a trip to Vancouver to get the perfect fabric! Have you thought about your Designer Original yet?

Is this list getting too long now? No way this is all going to be done while I am off work! Oh well! LOL!

While I’m off work, I’ve got some days planned out for a trip to Calgary, Alberta, too. I love seeing the animals at the Stampede, and the zoo. I think they might have Pandas visiting the zoo now? I’ll be sure to take some photos for you. I’ll probably take my laptop too and work on my next bag pattern during my down time. If I can’t sew, at least I can design! Oh, speaking of which …

My Canada Day Gift to you! I would like to give a discount code of 15% off on my PDF sewing patterns only, to everyone who signs up for my “Bag News” Newsletter at my shop Lányos Handmade BUT you must sign up before Monday, July 1, 2019 (Canada Day!) at 11:59 pm (PST/PDT). 1. Have the best holiday Linda, I hope it’s productive and look forward to seeing all the makes!

    1. Thank you Sue! Someone at work was actually saying to me “but you don’t wan to SEW on your holidays” umm well yes I do! Not all the time, but half the time! 😁

Love your website. I read your blog this morning and it’s so interesting! (especially the part about the nice, patient customer!) You must have a special “industrial type” sewing machine that can handle these heavy materials. I made a bag with a kilim and denim and it nearly killed my little Janome!

    1. Well I’m one step down from an industrial, I think. Someday I might need one. I do have a Janome myself, actually three of them 🤷🏼‍♀️ One of my Janomes is heavy duty and does bags but if that doesn’t work I pull out the vintage Singers from the ‘50s and ‘60’s. They could sew through my arm if I could fit it under the needle! 😂 thanks for commenting C.J.

  3. You have lots of activities planned for your vacation. When they’re activities you want to do though, then it’s really cool. I hope that makes sense, Im just having my first sips of coffee. Have a great time off. Im heading over to Bag News. 👜

    1. Yes when it’s something you enjoy doing, sitting and doing it is fun and relaxing! You know what I mean with you writing and drawing! Enjoy your coffee break!

  4. Hold it, did you just say you were going to go back on your diet and exercise schedule????
You’re on vacation! You’re going to hang out with me in Calgary!! We’re going to the Zoo (ice cream) and Village Ice Cream (more ice cream) and Regrub (tons of ice cream) and Wow Bakery (cakes)!!!
Promise me you won’t be sensible until you go back home!!!! 🙂

    1. 😂😂😂 yes I did say that! I was wondering if you would notice! BUT I have 17 days off work and 5 days in Calgary, so I figure 12 sugar-less days will balance out the 5 days of ice cream 🍨 and cakes 🍰 IF I do a lot of walking 🚶 too (do you have a treadmill?). 😂😂😂 I can alway continue in earnest on day 18. Oh and by the way you might have to meet me at the airport with a couple of Aero bars after 7 sugar-free days! 😂😂😂

  5. Correct me if I am wrong, but you have changed the face of your blog. I am always so impressed with the creations you make but now I have to add computer/design skills to your repertoire. Well done, it looks terrific.

    1. Thank you for noticing! Every year I check out the themes to see if I can learn or try something new! WordPress is pretty user friendly, I think! It kind of spices things up! 😁 Glad you like it!
