Can I say it again? I finished another one of my #makenine2019!

This time it was my jeans!!!

They were cut out of a black denim in 2019.  I can’t remember what type of denim it was or where I purchased it.  Sorry!  That was so long ago!  I do know that I used Vogue 8774, which I have used many times successfully.  I made them from the pattern tracings though as I can’t find the actual pattern pieces!

I got this far with them in August 2019, not quite sure why I stopped.  There certainly wasn’t much left to sew up!  The belt loops? waistband? hemming?  Was this project doomed?

No, not doomed! Even though I finished it almost two years later! 🙂

I used my Janome HD 3000, a jeans needle and regular thread in the top and the bobbin. When it came to the topstitching I switched to a topstitching needle with white topstitching thread in the top and regular white thread in the bobbin. I also used my 1/4″ foot to help keep my topstitching straight and uniform.

Here are some shots of the parts I like the best!

I loved trying to fit in all the contrasting bits. This is the same contrasting upholstery fabric I used for my black jean jacket with the lace attached, and the Lányos Gemma Bag that I am making for my YouTube channel Sew Along. I have used up almost every bit of that wonderful black/white/red fabric!

I have never used WHITE topstitching thread before. I am very pleased with the results. Usually I use that typical yellow topstitching thread that most RTW jeans have. It must have taken me hours to decide what design to put on the rear pockets, not to mention the time spent trying to decide where I wanted the rear pockets to sit on my rear!

Here is another favourite part … getting out the awl and hammer and poking a hole and bashing on a jeans button! I’ve done it quite a few times now, so I’ve got just the right “bashing” pressure figured out. You might notice the extra seam line on the waistband. I had to piece together the waistband from the black denim scraps left over. I must have used every drop of this black denim fabric too!

So here is the final look, in my sewing room to avoid all the clouds and rain outside … A little difficult to see the details on these black denim jeans, but amazingly enough you CAN see every single cat hair that I have picked up on them!

So on to my next #makenine2019 … I need a new shirt, I think, well … not NEED, but WANT, and when you sew it for yourself it’s not only a fun challenge, but you usually get just what you want, don’t you agree?

Happy Sewing!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

STASH BUSTING WITH THIS PROJECT? I don’t think there is any change because I counted the amount used for these jeans already when I cut them out. So my estimate is still 118.3 metres.

  1. Even if you started them in 2019, they are still a nice surprise in 2021. Beautiful.

    1. Yes, definitely, everything in that pile of UFO’s (unfinished objects) has been a nice surprise! Thank you! ☺️

Your jeans look great! Wow. Your attention to detail. I really like the belt loops and the inside of the front pockets being the other material.

    1. Thank you! It’s just a little pop of colour! ❤️

  3. Linda,

    I love your jeans!

I especially love the black denim material with the white top stitching. The design on the back pockets are an especially nice touch.

You go girl! It doesn’t matter when you finish, as long as you finish it.
You did it and you look great!

Happy jeans-wearing for years to come
and when the denim gets that nice well-worn patina, they will look just as attractive with a vintage flair!

    1. Thank you! I agree! Right now they are crisp and pitch black. They will soften up and get that comfortable look and be even better!
