Not one, but two!

Yes, there are TWO new patterns in the Lányos Handmade Shop! I just put the finishing touches on the Swish Messenger Bag Pattern – a FREE PDF sewing pattern – and the Lányos Primrose Purse Pattern!

You might have seen the Swish Messenger Bag Pattern already. I did a video class of it for the Rebecca Page Sewing Summit “Get Crafty Summer Camp”. It was lots of fun trying something new and working with the group at Rebecca Page was a great experience. I’m happy that I have been asked to do more videos for them.

But on to the pattern! The Swish Messenger Bag Pattern is a FREE PDF sewing pattern in the Lányos Handmade Shop! It’s great for beginner bag makers. It doesn’t take very much fabric and it doesn’t require any bag hardware. I made mine with less than a yard (metre) of fabric that was lying around, plus the lining. This simple pattern gives you the freedom to be the designer – you pick any fabric or embellishments you like! I have almost finished a “Camo” Canvas Swish too. It’s very cool!

It’s also a FUN project to do with the little ones! There was a Facebook post that a Gramma had sewn a Swish with her 9 year old grandchild. It turned out really well, don’t you think! I wish I had gotten her name so I could give her proper credit! I certainly will keep my eyes open for more posts by them so I can give them the credit they deserve. I LOVE when the younger generation takes up a new skill or hobby and gets creative.

The pattern testers had fun with the Swish Messenger Bag pattern too!

So don’t forget to pick up your FREE copy in the Lányos Handmade Shop here!

Now the Lányos Primrose Purse is just a bit more complicated! But still, nothing that a sewist like you can’t handle!

The Primrose Purse has two lined zipper pouches on the front and back and one lined magnetic snap pouch in the middle. Inside it has options for a slip pocket, card slot pocket and/or a zipper pocket. I so enjoyed designing the fancy, hardware laden, cross-body strap!

The BEST thing about designing a sewing pattern is when your testers or other sewists get the pattern and put their own twist on it. The sewing pattern is just the start, the foundation, after that the creativity of your fellow sewists really shines! Look at these Primrose Purses!

If you would like to see more Primrose Purses, here’s the link to the Shop, here! Until midnight Monday, August 2, 2021, the Lányos Primrose is on sale, NO CODE REQUIRED, at 15% off the regular price!

What next? Well I still have one Primrose Purse to finish off for a customer, and then there is always my half-done summer top – View A of McCall’s M6840 – and then there are the Rebecca Page videos … hmm … think that will keep me busy?

Happy Sewing! Thank you for reading and commenting!

Stash Busting with this project? Well … I haven’t finished my top yet, so I’m still at approximately 117 metres in the stash!

  1. Wow, what beautiful handbags. Nice job.

    1. Thank you! It was a busy couple of months… now on to the next project! 😁

  2. Hi Linda,

    What a great post!

I absolutely love the Lányos Primrose Purse!
I sport one of these nearly everyday to work and run errands by bicycle.

It is definitely a great “form/functional” design.

The smooth, sleek body style, (with nothing to catch on to it or nothing to spill out of it), looks so high-end fabulous, yet so highly functional with its thoughtful design features.

I love that you’ve put the effort into giving the purse an adjustable strap with quality hardware.

You’ve really hit the mark with your beautiful & practical Lányos Primrose Purse pattern design!

    1. Thank you very much! I spent a lot of time trying to get a lot of room into a smaller purse and when it comes to straps, I just have to have an adjustable, so I might as well make it a fancy one!

  3. What a beautifully constructed little Primrose bag, Linda.

    1. Thank you very much! ❤️ it’s fun creating these new patterns.
