Are you ready for DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER 2018?

Have you picked out your Designer Original and the fabric you need to make your Designer me-made COPY?  Or are you just in the planning stages – don’t worry … there’s lots of time to sew before DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER 2018!

Ever since the first DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER (2015) I’ve seen many fabulous garments in stores, magazines, online, on social media, on runways … so many beautiful garments!  And I say,

“Why buy when you can make it yourself – better and for less money?”

I’ve seen plenty of fabulous Designer Originals, like this dress from Oscar de la Renta Fall 2018.

Which led me to this tunic and trousers, again Oscar de la Renta Fall 2018 … which I want so bad!  Perhaps not in pink (I’m not a pink type of girl!) and perhaps with a tunic that is a bit shorter (so I don’t look stumpy!) and perhaps with sleeves a bit shorter too (so they don’t get caught in the filing cabinets at work).  Where AM I going with this?

Well, it looks like I’ve found my Designer Original to copy for DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER 2018!

I could recreate this Designer Original tunic with this Vogue pattern, V9206, if I decided on the length I wanted and made the sleeve ends with an elastic ruffle instead of a band.

This would be a good choice for my Designer me-made trousers, McCall’s M6361.  Of course, I can’t see the waistband on the trousers the model is wearing – so I have a bit of freedom with what I can’t see.

I found my fabric for my Designer me-made trousers recently.   A Kelly Green Galaxy Twill – 65% polyester 35% cotton.  I don’t have much green in my wardrobe.  I think it’s time to change that!

Of course, I could have taken the easy way out and found a fabric for my Designer me-made tunic that was a light colour with a black print.  Or is that even possible?  Instead I found this green satin.  (I prefer the non-shiny side.)  Unfortunately, I don’t know the fabric content because I was in too much of a hurry to grab it!

At the same time I grabbed this embroidered sheer.  I think it’s time I learned how to appliqué!  There are perhaps 6 birds and lots of vines and flowers on this piece I bought.  A few to practice with and a few for my Designer me-made tunic!

Now of course, just in case I mess up really, really bad, I also bought this ready made black appliqué.  I leave nothing to chance!

And I bought some “Heat n Bond”, although I’ve never used it before – but there is nothing wrong with learning something new.

I ran across this Oscar de la Renta blouse and this Sew Over It Pussy Bow Blouse came to mind.  Who needs to spend $2,053.83 CA for a blouse?

“Why buy when you can make it yourself – better and for less money?”
