Designin’ December 2020!

The DESIGNIN’ DECEMBER Sewing Challenge is FIVE years old!  I wonder how much that is in cat years? 🙂  This will be the 5th year that I have been sizing up all the fashions in the stores, magazines, online or on the runway. All the while thinking …

“Why buy when you can make it yourself – better and for less money?”

This year, again, Oscar de la Renta has inspired me!  Although in the Designin’ December Facebook Group I have seen lots of new design ideas!  Won’t you join us, right here?

Here’s a pretty Oscar de la Renta, and only $2620 !

I imagined this one in my favourite shades of blue, $3314!

This one’s half price at $3045 – but then if you have some embroidery or appliqué talents…

I almost went for this one … it has pockets!!!! ($2343)

Won’t you join in the Designin’ December Sewing Challenge?  Check out last year’s participants and prizes right here!

I have made my Designin’ December choice!  I just couldn’t tear myself away from Oscar de la Renta.  I couldn’t get this top out of my mind ($2053).  I love the skirt too!

This is my “Designer Original” Inspiration.  Of course, now I had to check my fabric stash and my pattern stash for the needed supplies.  Although I love these fabrics, below, none of them were doing it for me.

The ones on the left were lovely floral prints but were the wrong type of fabric for the top and the ones on the right were the right weight but not the right floral print for the skirt to match the top!

Oh bother!

When it came to my pattern stash, I had better luck!  Views C on the Butterick or A on the McCall’s would probably work with the addition of a small collar that turns into the bow?  And nothing beats a the Sewaholic Hollyburn or this New Look pattern for skirt choices!

So my problem was FABRIC!  125.8 metres in the stash and none of it works.  SOLUTION:  add another 4 metres to the fabric stash for my “Designer COPY”.  🙂

I decided on the rayon on the left for the top and the polyester on the right for the skirt.  Now admittedly the skirt fabric is not a floral print.  It wasn’t too difficult to find a floral for the top, but then to try to find a floral that matched the top fabric, but was different, for the skirt, was an ordeal that I didn’t survive.  So these are my choices!  (We shall see how this goes, won’t we?)

Have you decided on your “Designer Original” and the fabric and pattern for your “Designer COPY” because Designin’ December 2020 is happening!!!

The fall season is that special time of year when our creative minds can really get spun into gear.

So many ideas. So little time…

Still, I will definitely try to participate, especially since denim is one of my favorite fabrics.
