I’ve got my fabric cut out for my Designer Copy of this Pucci Printed Poplin Tunic Dress! I’ve definitely had to be careful cutting because I was short on fabric, so my version will be a shorter top, not a tunic top. I am loving this fabric and the style!

I have my Designer Copy of these Polo Ralph Lauren Cargo Pants cut out now too! Unfortunately the only pattern I have that is similar is this McCall’s M7364, which doesn’t have any of the “cargo” style pockets!

Of course, it was only after I cut my fabric and drafted some pocket flaps, that I noticed that Itch to Stitch, one of our #designindecember sponsors, has a perfect pattern for Cargo Pants in their Shop! I bought it “for future use”! 😉

I wasn’t fond of the construction method for the front pockets in the McCall’s pattern. The instructions asked that you just fold over and fold over again and hem the pocket opening, so I used bias tape instead. How cool is this Clover Hot Hemmer! It was so quick and accurate for pressing my SA in for hemming.

My Hot Hemmer was especially helpful in pressing up the curved hem on the back pockets too!

I used the side pocket and pocket flap pattern pieces from my new Itch to Stitch Sequoia Cargo Pants pattern and drafted a second matching pocket flap to fit my back pockets. Deciding I wouldn’t go the bias tape/unlined route for these side pockets, I cut lining pieces from this lovely red floral print!

I decided to sew the side seams together differently than the pattern too! Like a French Seam but with a double row of Topstitching!

Next? Pockets and pocket flaps sewn on. Maybe I should add some hardware to the pocket flaps – What do you think?

How’s your #designinDecember coming along? It looks like “Cat’s Pajamas” has her Designer Original and her Designer Copy finished already!!!
