Every May @sozoblog, and on Instagram here, invites sewists to challenge themselves in some way. Some choose to post a photo of themselves every day with a complete head to toe #memade outfit. Some choose to sew only from their stash. The possibilities are endless!

I haven’t signed myself up for a few years now. It was actually easier when I was working because I sewed and wore lots of office wear: suits, dresses, skirts, tops, pants… You name it, I probably sewed and wore it! 🤣

After I retired, I didn’t need a lot of office wear, so I donated most of mine to a Women’s Shelter. I did keep a few things, things that could be worn out for dinner and so on, but now my wardrobe is definitely more casual.

I swear I have been sewing the same jeans, yoga pants, and tees for a couple of years now! I do throw in a couple of cardigans, jean jackets, and coats too! Some of my favourites are vintage, or out of print, Big4 patterns, Itch to Stitch, Islander Sewing Systems, and Helen’s Closet.

Of course, that left me with tons of time for my bag making and other interesting new sewing projects! 😆

So what did I pledge for #memadeMay … Truth! Did I meet my pledge… every day? … NOPE! 😂 That’s ok! It’s not a test or a sewing challenge, it’s the thought that counts, I think! 😃

Please let me share with you my present “office attire”.

McCalls M6566 top. This fabric was from Our Social Fabric, a deadstock fabric shop in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Here’s the link! Not only do they sell deadstock fabric, but they also take donations! I love the purple tone of this knit, and it is so wide, I could probably make a few tops from it! Quite often I use bias tape on the seam allowances of knit tops or cardigans to prevent too much stretching.

With my tees, I usually wear standard black yoga pants sewn up from an out of print Kwik Sew pattern. Again, this knit fabric came from Our Social Fabric. It was lovely weight and had just enough stretch! I got a few pairs out of this purchase too.

Last, my favourite casual cardigan, McCalls M6996, and a wonderful waffle knit, again from Our Social Fabric. It almost looks and feels like real knitting! Again, I used binding on the SA’s. 🤣

All in all, I love my new “office attire”. I’ve waited for years to dress like this all the time! 🤣

Did you sign up? If you missed this year … Start up your sewing machine now! Let’s get ready for next year!

Happy Sewing!

I think we could be wardrobe twins. I’ve swapped a corporate wardrobe for more casual now I’ve retired. Your “office wear” looks lovely.

Thank you! Yes, I loved challenging myself with sewing different suit styles, etc. when I was working, but really there is only so much a person needs when they don’t have to run off to an office every day, right! 😁
