“CABOCHON”
cab·o·chon ˈka-bə-ˌshän
: a gem or bead cut in convex form and highly polished but not faceted
also: this style of cutting
You don’t often see them in bag hardware, specifically zipper pulls, but Cabochons are a fabulous idea! I found mine at Atelier Fiber Arts and at The Moody Sewist, so far. Hopefully, more bag hardware suppliers will give us Cabochons in different hardware finishes. Atelier Fiber Arts has a Matte Black, link here, and The Moody Sewist has the Antique Bronze and Rose Gold, link here.
Any small circle of vinyl, cork, canvas, etc., can be slipped under the Cabochon with a drop of glue on the layers to hold it all together. You get the perfect zipper pull to match your project. Easy Peasy!
I just sewed up and did a video, link here, for Cork and Copper Design’s Pennyroyal Cut and Sews, link here, and I just had to use the Moody Sewist’s Rose Gold Cabochon to match!
Best part of all is that CCD’s Cut and Sew vinyl can be sewn with my domestic Janome MC8200QCP.
Love, love, love!
What do you think? Is this something you could fall for?
Happy Sewing!
