I’ve always got an eye out for border print fabric and when I saw this 100% cotton denim – EMBROIDERED – I could not resist! I bought enough for a pair of casual summer pants and a summer top. It has been quite hot here lately (but unfortunately smokey from forest fires) so I am craving new summer clothes. I figure by the time I finish these two garments it will be raining?
I thought I would try McCall’s M7364, view D without the ties at the bottom – a “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern. Last time I tried a “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern it was a cardigan and I didn’t like it. You can take a look at it here.
I made a slight change to this pattern. There were side seams and inner leg seams. I couldn’t bear to break up the embroidery with a side seam so I cut each leg in one piece.
There was quite a bit of fraying with this fabric so I thought I would try some french seams around the crotch.
For the inner leg seams, I wanted to carefully match the embroidery pattern, so I basted, sewed and zig zagged these seams carefully!

I got really lazy and zig zagged and sewed the hems up.
Sewed the waist band casing for the drawstring and I was almost done!
I am much happier with this “Learn to Sew for Fun” pattern than the last one I did. Perfectly colourful and lightweight pants for our hot summer weather! Next week, hopefully the top will be finished too!
I just had to show you this one – my outtake – this happens all the time when I hurry to set up my camera, tripod and timer! … Nice tree!

STASH BUSTING WITH THIS PROJECT? Nothing! I purchased 3 metres of this fabric adding to the stash, but I used 1.6 m for these pants and have already cut 1.4 m to make a top, so there is still 130.2 metres left in the inventory, I guess!
