It’s time for the Designin’ December Sewing Challenge 2023!

We are in our 8th year now and I’m so happy to see the return of our prize sponsors and sewists! I love this time of year! There is so much talent and creativity out there!

I am torn – what do I sew up this year for the Designin’ December Sewing Challenge when there are so many lovely Designer fashions that inspire me?

I do like this “Patti” style top, but I really don’t think it is my style to wear something so slouchy! I also like this “Anorak” hoodie. Oh I could probably find a lovely fabric to show off its style!

On the other hand, is it time for a top? or a dress? They say that the first two here, the seer sucker and the swirly stripes are Mini dresses … umm, not for me! I’d prefer a Tunic top, perhaps with some leggings underneath! I do like the “Pucci Printed Poplin Tunic Dress“! I love the swirly stripes style and print. I suppose I should be on the hunt for fabrics and patterns now?

The shirt dress is always a nice classic and I’ve always wanted to make myself a patchwork denim dress! As you can see I am really torn! What’s your favourite?

I should just look through my pattern stash and fabric stash and see what I have at home here already that I could use …. shouldn’t I? 🙂

So what have I got in my pattern stash that could possibly mimic the style of the “Pucci Tunic Dress“? How about this McCall’s Pattern, view D, and this fabric …. that I don’t even know what it is because I have had it for soooo long!

Now I need some leggings for under my Tunic Dress! 🙂 I have had the Citrus Leggings Pattern from Tuesday Stitches for a while now and have made them many times! I tried finding the shop link for you, but I can’t! Any ideas where they went? Hopefully they have just moved to a new site and we have not lost another wonderful Indie Pattern Designer! Here is a photo of the line drawing, if that helps. I am choosing another fabric from my stash, this Black 92% polyester 8% spandex from Our Social Fabric. You really should check out this supplier of deadstock fabrics!

  1. I’m leaning towards the anorak. Granted, I’m one of those people who can’t have enough hoodies. It’ll be cool to see what everyone designs.

    1. It is a nice twist on a hoodie, isn’t it! Maybe I’ll have to keep a few of them in mind and make them eventually! It is fun to see what everyones’ interpretation of the original Design is! Thanks for being a prize sponsor all these years!

  2. Yay for Designin’ December 2023! Count me in!

Your ideas all sound so fantastic, it’s no wonder you’re having a hard time choosing. I think the denim patchwork dress would be fun (and great for scraps), but the Pucci blouse seems like a great option, too – especially since you’ve got it sorted out already. The McCall’s pattern you picked out for it seems perfect! I’ll have to look for that leggings pattern for myself – it looks nice, and I like the details!

As always, I can’t wait to see what you and all the participants make this year for the challenge!

    1. Funny, I picked all those photos because I loved them all … I just might have to make them all eventually! Thanks for joining in and I’m looking forward to seeing what inspires you!!!

  3. Hi there. Those are really nice dresses that were made, and other close as well. It’s a great gift to sew, excellent work in sewing. I enyoy it myself. However I, know lately I haven’t had time to do more sewing. I’ve been busy. Ho to let you know my name is Carol. I’ll send my email. Thank you, Carol Kichard. 👍
