Ok, I confess, I missed the #designinDecember sewing challenge deadline, but I am super happy with my new jacket! So many interruptions and such a delay in getting proper photos! I love that loaded it with topstitching though … I’m thinking I might have even been able to get more topstitching on it!
For the #designinDecember sewing challenge, I hacked a McCalls Pattern M6657 to include colour blocking and topstitching, similar to what you can see in my inspiration “Designer Photo” on the left, a Fendi Fall 2024 RTW.

If you would like to see my previous posts while I was sewing up this jacket, check out these! October 1, 2024 , October 14, 2024 , and December 23, 2024 where I made decisions on colour blocking and topstitching.
I still have the urge to sew in MORE topstitching! LOL. After everything was sewn together, fronts, back and sleeves, I covered the few exposed seam allowances with fold over elastic. Then I spent a few hours trying to decide if I really wanted patch pockets, or not…. NOT. Instead I stuck with the side seam pockets only.

After hemming, I dug through the ole’ cookie tin full of buttons and came across the biggest blue buttons I own. Might as well, hmmm? If you would like to know how I sewed large buttonholes with my Janome MC8200QCP, when my buttons were too big for my buttonhole foot, check out THIS SHORT VIDEO on the Lányos Handmade Youtube Channel….

…. and we’re done!

Here she is, on me, for perspective! Hidden side pockets, topstitched back, and the front with topstitching and those fabulous buttons! I swear I keep forgetting to check the sleeve length on my jackets. It’s fine for winter ones because I always hide my hands up inside the sleeves anyway! These will be super easy to just fold up again and topstitch down. The resulting thick cuff will give some shape to the sleeves. Have you ever finished a garment, tried it on and groaned…. forgot to check the fit on that! Oh well!

Hard to believe how many months have passed since I pulled these materials out of their storage bag!
