Join Us for #MeMadeMay: Celebrating Handmade Creations

Just to prove to certain family members that were asking… I did it! I cleaned the guest bedroom!

I have a sewing corner in a big, bright, cheery bedroom, and a large sewing storage closet in a smaller guest bedroom. My cutting table and pressing mat are in the smaller guest bedroom too. I end up putting in a lot of steps on my tracker – which is a good thing.

Only problem though is that I am in the habit of making a mess in the guest bedroom, pulling things out of the sewing storage closet and not always putting them back. I mean, I can always shut the door, right!

Another problem too is that I have a “Collecting Fabric Stash” hobby. Don’t you?

So! Once a year I clean up everything, sort out my stash, reorganize, and take everything I haven’t used for a year or so, whether bag hardware, fabric, vinyl, whatever, and bag it up for the donation shop.

There! The guest bedroom is neat and tidy again (family can come visit now!) and the sewing storage closet is pristine!

Now I can get into #MeMadeMay!

What’s #MeMadeMay? It was started by Zoe Edwards in 2010. Many sewists committed to wearing hand made garments every day in May. The challenge means different things to different sewists, but all are welcomed to celebrate their creations no matter what they are or how many they have! The important thing is to choose what you can accomplish in May and enjoy the process!

I have done Me Made May daily for years now. It started in 2015 with a “ready-to-wear fast”. I got tired of spending money on things that didn’t last, or were bought on a whim, or didn’t really fit me as much as I hoped!

Slowly, over the years, with the support of sewing challenges like the “ready-to-wear fast” and “MeMadeMay” I filled my closet with MeMades!

Now I’m retired, I don’t sew a lot of clothing, no office wear required, just a coat or two, or if something catches my eye, or something for the Designin’ December sewing challenge, or if something is needed for my daily, casual wardrobe. I must confess though that I have become obsessed with designing and sewing my own handbags, wallets, pouches, and stuff like that. Once you start, you just can’t stop!

So this #MeMadeMay you will be seeing posts from me, but I am going to stick with sewing what I really enjoy doing or need. Be prepared to see more bags, casual clothes, and that mysterious pile of unfinished projects I found in the sewing storage closet! oops!

First project, an already cut out “Toronto Tee” and “Tuesday’s Stitches” leggings. I have no clue when these things were cut out. I hope they still fit! If not, I’ll just run them down to the donation shop!

Happy Sewing and Thank you for reading! 🤗

Oh! Before I forget! During the last year I moved my Pattern Shop to a new site provider. More importantly, I also moved my Blog to a different site provider, the one you are seeing here.

Let me know if you find any glitches here in the links or anything, as it is still definitely a work in progress and, if you enjoy my posts … Please don’t forget to subscribe, just click on the “Subscribe” button, and you will get my posts directly in your mail.

    Wow! Looks nice!
It must feel good & inspiring getting your guest room back in order, while gaining a clean slate for even more sewing inspiration. #MeMadeMay

Haha! Definitely! I was sewing my pink floral top a minute ago and thought “hey! I have some lace seam binding I could use!” And I actually knew exactly where it was in my sewing storage closet! Bonus! 😂

    Hi, Linda:

Have you considered joining a quilt guild? I did ten years ago, hoping to find both a sewing community and learn new sewing skills. I still love sewing clothing the most but I also love the ladies and guys in my quilt guild. So far it takes me a year to produce one bed-sized quilt. My plan is to make a quilt for each of my grandkids (two done – three to go).

Hello! I have made a few table runners and placemats, and sewing machine covers. Small gifts. It seems though that I only have the patience for the smaller projects, unfortunately. I know I would never get a full sized quilt finished! What a lovely idea gifting your grandchildren a quilt! I am glad you are enjoying the company of your group! It sounds like a lovely group of people!
