Family, Fundraising, and Hope – The 2026 Move to Cure ALS BC

Last Sunday was the 2026 Move to Cure ALS BC Walk. We had some wonderfully hot weather – most of us had to hide in the shade of the trees or under the tents until the Walk!

We always try to make a good couple of days out of it, hanging out with family is the best part of the weekend, remembering those who have passed.

Our family has been doing this fundraising walk for many years. My nephew, Brad MacKenzie, was diagnosed at the age of 30 and passed at the age of 38. Brad and other ALS team members were instrumental in launching Project Hope. Project Hope’s objective is to “enhance clinical care by promoting advanced ALS research and treatment innovations at the University of BC”, including clinical trials and research initiatives to find a cure. Brad worked hard for the ALS Society for as long as he could. We were blessed with him and so we continue his work as best as we can.

We had a new event organizer this year – Pierce did a great job, and even asked me to hold his sign, so I had to take a photo! Thank you to Pierce and the volunteers for all you do.

Lányos Handmade donates regularly to the Move to Cure ALS BC, giving 10% of all pattern sale proceeds every year, plus all sale proceeds from the Luxe II Laptop Case too. I think it is time to design another ALS fundraising sewing pattern. What do you think? I might just have something special in mind!

You can find all the details for the Luxe Laptop sewing pattern in our Shop here and additional photos on the blog here. The Luxe also has video sew alongs here.

Sue of Fadanista Blog just recently sewed up a Luxe! Check out her blog here.

If you are in Canada, and would like to support this cause, you can donate directly and receive a tax receipt HERE! or you can purchase a copy of the Lányos Luxe Laptop Case sewing pattern HERE!  All sale proceeds for the Luxe sewing pattern are given to the Move to Cure ALS BC.

We thank you for your support!
