Lányos Kata © Bag Sewing Pattern – YouTube, LET, A4, A0 Projector

Have fun sewing your Kata Bag! Create your own design by adding contrasting prints or solids! This is an Adventurous Beginner/Intermediate pattern, due to the “drop in lining” technique used and the use of Rivets or Chicago Screws. I sew my Kata Bags on any of my vintage Singers, 421G or 500, or my Janome HD3000 or MC8200QCP, both domestic sewing machines, not industrials.

LÁNYOS KATA BAG FEATURES:

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

I sew my Kata Bags on any of my vintage Singers, 421G or 500, or my Janome HD3000 or MC8200QCP, both domestic sewing machines, not industrials. I try to make patterns and products that don’t require an industrial machine. I recommend choosing medium-weight materials for the Exterior and lighter weight materials for the Interior. Heavyweight materials might be difficult to sew in the tight areas, difficult to fold into pleats, and difficult to turn.

  • Exterior materials – an 18” x 26” or quarter yard roll, a solid and a print, for the Flap, Pleated Pocket, Slip Pocket, Exterior Front/Back, Gusset Base, 2 Gusset Sides, 3 Zipper Overlays, Strap Anchors, Strap, Zipper Facings, and Zipper Tab.
  • Suggested: Medium weight vinyl or cork. Waterproof or water resistant canvas may be used but you will still need raw edge material for the Pleated Pocket, 3 Zipper Overlays, Strap Anchors, Strap, and Zipper Tab, and you might need to add a Heavyweight stabilizer. Measure yourself carefully for the Strap and cut Raw Edge Materials to a comfortable length.
  • Interior materials – an 18” x 44” or a half yard roll, for the Flap, Slip Pocket, Interior Front/Back, Gusset Base, 2 Gusset Sides, Zipper Facings.
  • Suggested: Lightweight vinyl or cork. Waterproof or water resistant canvas or interfaced Quilting Cotton may be used, but you will still need raw edge material for the Pleated Pocket, 3 Zipper Overlays, Strap Anchors, Strap, and Zipper Tab, and you might need to add a Heavyweight stabilizer.
  • Lining materials – 0.25 metre or 1/4 yard for Pocket Linings. Suggested: Interfaced Quilting Cotton, lightweight waterproof or water resistant canvas.
  • Interfacing – 1 metre or 1 yard. Suggested: Lightweight interfacing: Pellon SF101 Shape Flex, Vlieseline G700, Pellon Decovil Light, or EB Fuse Light.
  • Optional Heavyweight stabilizer – For reinforcing Strap Anchors, Strap, and Rivets or Chicago Screws – 0.5 metre or 1/2 yard. Suggested: Pellon Decovil Heavy, Pellon Peltex.
  • Optional Webbing – For Strap – 1.5 metres or 5 feet of 2.5 cm or 1” wide OR 3.8 cm or 1 1/2” wide Webbing. Measure yourself carefully for the Strap and cut Webbing to a comfortable length.

HARDWARE REQUIRED:

  • #5 Zipper Tape 93.9 cm or 37” long total – Do not cut Zipper Tape until you have decided on your Zipper pocket options:
  • ONE length of 33 cm or 13” long with ONE Zipper Pull for top main Zipper
  • TWO lengths of 22.8 cm or 9” long for each Large Zipper Overlay Pocket with TWO Zipper Pulls
  • ONE length of 15.2 cm or 6” long for Small Zipper Overlay Pocket with ONE Zipper Pull
  • TWO Magnetic Snaps, 19 mm or 3/4”
  • ONE Slider, 2.5 cm or 1” wide
  • TWO D-Rings, 2.5 cm or 1” wide, or TWO Gate Rings, 3.8 cm or 1 1/2” wide
  • TWO Swivel Hooks, 2.5 cm or 1” wide
  • Rivets or Chicago Screws
  • Optional: 1 Purse Lock Closure, 1 Zipper End, 1 Strap End, 2.5 cm or 1” wide OR 3.8 cm or 1 1/2” wide, depending on the width of your Webbing.
